Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA)

Due to the start of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) in early 2014, many companies are choosing to renew their health plan(s) earlier than their current 12 month determination period.

A company who is electing to renew its group health plan(s) earlier than its current 12 month determination period and has an increase in the premium(s) cannot pass on that increase to an existing COBRA participant until the original 12 month anniversary period has passed.

IMPORTANT: The employer will be responsible for the difference in premium(s) until the old determination period has ended.
